JLo writes powerful statement about historic Superbowl halftime show and releases behind-the-scenes footage
Jennifer Lopez is still riding high and took to Instagram to post a powerful statement about her Super Bowl 54 halftime show .
On Sunday, Lopez took the stage after Shakira and gave the audience a sexy showcase of her hits. She also included her 11-year-old daughter Emme and shared why she believes her presence was warranted.
“All I want my girls, the little girls on stage with me and all over the world to know is how to use their voices and be proud of everything they are,” Lopez said in the caption. “Other people can try to build walls, keep us out or put us in cages. We are proud to recognize that all of us together are what makes this beautiful country truly great.
JLo hit the stage giving a nod to her Brooklyn roots and her camp says her stance on a stripper pole was simulated to represent a King Kong move on top of the Empire State building.

Shakira with Lebanese heritage stomped her way across the stage and her viral tongue-flicking move was paying homage to “zaghrouta” — a traditional Arabic expression of joy and celebration, commonly used at weddings and parties.
Quit the stupid jokes. This is called zaghrouta (a.k.a. ululation in English). It is a joyful sound Arabic speakers make when cheering & celebrating. #Shakira #ShakiraXJLoSuperBowl pic.twitter.com/mG2cWpB592

“Two Latinas doing this in this country at this time is just very empowering to us,” Lopez told reporters at a press conference.
“It’s very important for us to convey a message of unity and also to show what a relevant force the Latin community is in this country,” Shakira added.
